To Become A Unarmed Security Officer In The State of Florida, here are the Division of Licensing Requires:
• Each applicant must complete a (40) forty-hour course from a certified licensed facility. Training must include all core curriculum’s and compliance under Florida Statutes 493 and legal guidelines 5N-1.
• The applicant must be 18 years or older.
• The applicant cannot have prior disqualifying criminal history.
• The applicant must provide a full set of fingerprints.
• The applicant must legally be able to work in the U.S.
• The applicant must sign a personal inquiry waiver to allow the department to conduct background checks.
(Important: fdacs fees are excluded from course)
The Class “D” Security Course will teach students the basic principles of security including; physical security, access control, terrorism awareness and emergency procedures. Skill development shall include report writing, interviewing techniques, crime and accident prevention.

To become an Armed Security Guard in the State of Florida
Division of Licensing Requirements:
• The applicant must be 18 years or older.
• The applicant is required 28 hours of training in a state-certified facility.
• The applicant is required to take firearms training.
• The applicant must have a health certificate clearance from a doctor. (Physical)
• The applicant is required target training and handgun marksmanship.
• The applicant is required ammunition training and firearms care.
• The applicant must submit fingerprints.
• The applicant must undergo an FBI fingerprint background check.
• The applicant must have no record of any substance abuse
(Important: fdacs & gun range are excluded from course)
All Student Must Have or Uptain a Class “D” License First to Apply for a Class “G” License
The Florida Statewide Firearms “G” Course will teach students firearms safety, the principles of marksmanship, firearms mechanics and liability. Skill development shall include marksmanship fundamentals, loading and unloading, the 4-step draw and clearing malfunctions.
Completion of Courses
Class “D” License:
After courses are completed, a Certificate of Completion will be disbursed for successfully completing this course. Applications are to be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. Once submitted the student will receive there Class “D” Temporary Security License were he or she will then be able to work as a licensed security officer the same day in the State of Florida. Applications will be processed within 60-90 days of submission, afterwards initial license (hard copy) will be issued and mailed to the applicant. Once issued Class “D” License will be valid for 2 years.
Class “G” License:
After courses are completed, a Certificate of Proficiency will be disbursed for successfully completing this course. Applications must be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. Applications will be processed within 60-90 days of submission, afterwards initial license (hard copy) will be issued and mailed to the applicant. Once issued Class “G” License will be valid for 2 years. When the student receives the Class “G” Security License he or she will then be able to work as a security officer or as a private investigator in an armed capacity. An annual 4 hr re-certification is required yearly to keep Class “G” License active.
Concealed Weapons Permit:
After the course is completed, a Certificate of Completion will be disbursed for successfully completing this course. Applications are to be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. Applications will be processed within 60-90 days of submission, afterward initial license (hard copy) will be issued and mailed to the applicant. Once issued Class “W” License will be valid for 7 years.
